A self-ventilated passbox is an essential solution for cleanrooms, especially when it comes to transferring materials between contamination-controlled environments. Its main function is to minimise the risk of cross-contamination. It is a sort of passage chamber that ensures that contaminated air neither enters nor leaves, thanks to an advanced filtration system, usually with HEPA or ULPA filters. What makes it special is the laminar airflow: clean air is blown in evenly, pushing out suspended particles. Another interesting aspect is the interlocking of the doors: when you open one door in order to insert an object, the other one remains locked, so that contaminated air has no way of getting through. It also maintains a slight pressure gradient to prevent unwanted air exchange between the two areas. It is also designed by our engineers to be energy efficient. It is not running all the time, but only during crucial moments. Moreover, maintenance is really easy: filters can be replaced quickly, which reduces downtime. For a designer, the important thing is to understand where it can be positioned best, so that it integrates perfectly with the workflow of the cleanroom and the HVAC system. All our passboxes comply with ISO 14644 and GMP standards, ensuring that the installation meets the most stringent regulations.
